We are gearing up for another hot summer in Yuma!

Again, this summer we at Yuma 1st are continuing our commitment to care for the Yuma community by providing Heat Relief Kits to people who come to the church looking for cold water in the hot desert.

$2 Buck Lunch is an Outreach Ministry to the homeless of our community! We started this act of love in September of 2016!

Committed members like Bob, Barb, John, Joy, Wendy, Connie, Sandy, Sally, Jim, Lucille, Carol, Lloyd, Joan and Pastor Mike make sack lunches on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week. Then Marv, Lloyd or Bob and their helpers for the day deliver the lunches to the homeless in the Yuma Community!

Very well done, good and faith-filled servants!

The current Missions project is assistance to the agencies in South Yuma County that are responding to the needs of families seeking asylum in the U.S. that are being released into Yuma County.

The primary need at this time is for funds that are used to hire buses to transport asylum seekers to immigrant shelters in neighboring communities that are better able to respond to their needs. Each bus to transport 50 persons costs about $1500. Donations may be made to Campesinos Sin Fronteras , P.O. Box 423, Somerton, AZ 85350 with a notation that the donation is for asylum seekers. Financial donations are also used to pay for motel stays for quarantine if someone tests positive for Covid-19. The Regional Center for Border Health is providing rapid Covid-19 testing.

Another way to help is to supply donations for “travel bags” that Campesinos volunteers put together for each family.

Here is what is needed:

  • small hand sanitizers

  • small bottled water

  • tote bags or school-type backpacks in good shape ( need not be new)

  • packaged snacks ( beef jerkey, toddler snacks, crackers and cheese, crackers and peanut butter, etc )

  • diapers in all sizes, wipes

  • feminine hygiene supplies

There is a collection bin in the narthex, and we take donations to Somerton frequently, so bring your donations with you on Sunday.
